Scott Rowe, CEO of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Chattanooga, joined 3 Plus Your Health to give preventative tips for avoiding a stroke, alongside American Heart Assocation. Each May is designated as Stroke Awareness Month to bring awareness to the signs and risk factors of stroke. Approximately 795,000 people in the United States suffer from a stroke each year, according to the American Stroke Association. This means that nearly every 40 seconds, someone suffers from a stroke. During a stroke, every minute counts and there are a few signs and to recognize an oncoming stroke F.A.S.T, such as face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty and time to call. Around two-thirds of stroke survivors will require rehabilitation services to help them live fuller, more independent lives after being treated in the hospital. The effects of stroke vary depending on a person’s specific condition, including the location of the blockage and how much brain tissue is affected.
