BIRMINGHAM, Ala. and ST. LOUIS, July 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — HealthSouth Corporation (NYSE: HLS) and BJC HealthCare today announced they have filed a certificate of need with the State of Missouri to build a 35-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the third floor of BJC’s Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital (BJSPH) located in St. Peters, Missouri. Pending approval, the hospital will serve as a satellite location of The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis (TRISL), an existing inpatient rehabilitation hospital jointly operated by BJC HealthCare and HealthSouth.
“The addition of TRISL’s inpatient rehabilitation services really gets to the core of our mission of improving the health of the people and the communities we serve,” said Jill Skyles, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer for BJSPH and Progress West Hospital. “Having TRISL as a provider of rehabilitation services within BJSPH will enable patients to get the care they need right in their own community, close to their homes and families.”
Pending approval of the certificate of need, the construction is expected to take approximately nine months. The 39,000-square-foot unit, to be located on the hospital’s third floor, is expected to be operational in the summer of 2017. In addition to providing much needed rehabilitation services, it will bring approximately 86 new jobs to the area in its first year.
