SEWICKLEY, Pa., Nov. 6, 2019 – Yesterday, a grand opening celebration was held for Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sewickley’s new rehabilitation hospital. Encompass Health Sewickley, a joint venture of Encompass Health and Heritage Valley Health System, welcomed its first patients on Friday, Sept. 20 at the new hospital, which is located at 351 Camp meeting Road in Sewickley.
In addition to hospital tours and technology demonstrations, the grand opening included a ribbon cutting and presentation. Remarks were delivered by Leah Laffey, CEO of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sewickley; Peter Mantegazza, President of Encompass Health Corp.’s northeast region; Norman Mitry, President & CEO of Heritage Valley Health System; Rocky Bleier, four-time Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl champion and Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient; former Encompass Health Sewickley patient Candice Kirkwood; and Barb Jacobsmeyer, EVP and President of inpatient hospitals for Encompass Health.
Laffey stated, “Encompass Health Sewickley has provided care as part of the Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, network for 20 years. And in those 20 years, we’ve admitted approximately 15,600 patients, helping them regain confidence and return to this great community at their highest levels of independence. This new building is an exciting new chapter for us and allows us the space to serve even more patients for the years to come.”
The new hospital boasts 55 private patient rooms, a dining area, an in-house pharmacy, advanced rehabilitation technologies and a courtyard for outdoor living activities. An activities of daily living suite has also been included in the design to allow patients to practice everyday tasks such as laundry, cooking, self-transfer skills and self-care activities such as dressing and bathing.
The hospital’s focus is providing inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services and higher medical management for patients recovering from stroke and other neurological disorders, hip fractures, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and complex orthopedic conditions. It holds disease-specific care certifications from The Joint Commission for its stroke, brain injury, amputee, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and hip fracture rehabilitation programs. Patients will receive physical, occupational and speech therapies; 24-hour nursing care; access to advanced technologies and frequent visits by an attending physician during their stay.
