LITTLE RIVER, S.C., June 12, 2018 – Today, Birmingham, Ala.-based Encompass Health Corp. and Tidelands Health broke ground on a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital located within Horry County’s new Bridgewater Development at 100 Water Grand Blvd. in Little River.
In addition to the ceremonial groundbreaking, presentation remarks were provided by Carey Swanson, CEO of the future inpatient rehabilitation hospital; Bruce Bailey, president and CEO of Tidelands Health; H. McRoy Skipper Jr., CPA, chairman of Tidelands Health’s board of trustees; and Barb Jacobsmeyer, president of inpatient rehabilitation services at Encompass Health Corp.
“In its first year, services provided at this hospital can help approximately 1,100 people return to their highest levels of independence after experiencing a life-altering illness or injury,” said Jacobsmeyer. “We are grateful to have a trusted partner like Tidelands Health to bring these high-quality, cost-effective rehabilitative services to the Little River community through this beautiful, new hospital.”
The 52,081-square-foot, freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital will include 46 private patient rooms, a spacious therapy gym, an in-house pharmacy, courtyard, dining room and dayroom areas. It is expected to begin serving patients in spring 2019.
“Construction of this new rehabilitation hospital is part of Tidelands Health’s continued commitment to help people live better lives through better health,” Bailey said. “Working in partnership with the outstanding team at Encompass Health, our goal is to deliver advanced rehabilitative care that helps people return to their highest level of function and mobility.”
Frederick and Associates serves as the architect for the project with Robins and Morton serving as the contractor. The cost of the project is approximately $20.6 million.
The hospital team will provide inpatient rehabilitation services and higher medical management for patients recovering from stroke and other neurological disorders, hip fractures, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and complex orthopedic conditions. Patients will receive a minimum of three hours per day of therapy for five days each week, 24-hour nursing care, access to advanced technologies and frequent visits by an attending physician during their stay.
Tidelands Health and Encompass Health will also jointly own and operate the existing inpatient rehabilitation hospital located on the campus of Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet. The partnership to operate the hospital is expected to begin this summer.
