At Encompass Health, we want to honor employees who go above and beyond—and not just during challenging times but at all times.
Nearly 15 years ago, we started our employee recognition program. The Outstanding Employee Achievement Award (OEAA) program was created to recognize extraordinary behavior and contributions by our hospital employees.
Since we started it in 2009, and every year since, we’ve looked at hospital employees from across the county who were nominated by their peers for their exceptional work. A group of regional leaders then selects an employee from each region who exemplifies our commitment to making positive differences in the lives of our patients and their families, as well as the communities we serve. These winners represent the best of the best out of more than 30,000 employees.
What is OEAA?
OEAA culminates with a gala that honors the eight regional winners, but the program runs throughout the year.
At the local level, hospital leadership recognizes an employee of the quarter, and then an employee of the year. It’s from these employees of the year that the regional winners are selected. This process is always difficult because there are so many excellent employees who are all deserving of recognition.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we weren’t able to hold our annual OEAA gala for the last two years but are excited to bring it back this year. Each of our winners and their guests will be honored at our Home Office in Birmingham, Alabama, during this formal celebratory event.
The highlight of the evening is always watching the videos prepared by our Marketing Services team that show each of these individuals in action at their hospitals.
Why We Started the Program
Executive leadership and our board of directors started this program as a way to show appreciation to those who contribute to the success of our hospitals, and most importantly, our patients.
This program also serves as a formal way for us to thank the employees who go above and beyond their duties. Our OEAA winners consistently do more than what is asked or expected of them for their patients, colleagues and communities.
It’s not easy to deliver exceptional patient care during difficult times and a lingering pandemic. Yet, these winners understand the importance of our purpose. They bring their best selves to work, collaborate with others, commit to education and growth, prioritize patient success and lead by example. They are mentors to their colleagues and lifelines for their patients.
We are excited to celebrate our 2021 recipients in person this year and personally thank them for the work they do every day.
