Earlier this month I reached out to Encompass Health employees regarding the death of George Floyd and its impact on our nation. I shared that a key component to addressing racial injustices in our country is open dialogue that seeks understanding and appreciation of unique perspectives.
An email isn’t enough, and our work can’t stop there.
It’s time for us to take the next step and create a space for open dialogue to better understand the experience of African Americans and other people of color in our country. Since then, I have worked with other Encompass Health leaders to further enhance and prioritize our inclusion and diversity efforts.
If we want to foster open dialogue, it is important that our leaders set that tone and lead by example. I sat down with Dawn Rock, Encompass Health’s chief compliance officer, and Bryan Rogers, national director of employee relations and inclusion, to learn more about their personal experiences as African Americans, and to discuss how we can all be part of the solution to overcoming systemic racism.
This video is one of several that will be produced in the coming months. It’s my hope that discussions like these with our employees can spark change in our Company and in our nation.
Our commitment to inclusion and diversity
At Encompass Health, we operate in diverse communities across the country. We are committed to ensuring that inclusion and diversity are incorporated into our day-to-day business practices at all levels within our organization. Our inclusion and diversity program is our unified effort to create a connected workforce, better patient experience, enhanced supplier resources and effective community partnerships.
Like any critical business imperative, advancing inclusion and diversity requires clear strategy, deliberate focus and sustained action. I recently joined business leaders across the country to take a CEO pledge committing to a specific set of actions that I will take to cultivate a trusting environment at Encompass Health – where all ideas are welcomed and employees feel comfortable and empowered to have discussions about diversity and inclusion.
