Last updated:

Encompass Health is gearing up for ARN’s annual REACH conference, a dedicated meeting of rehabilitation nursing professionals happening Nov. 6-9. The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) will celebrate its 45th anniversary at this year’s REACH event, held in Columbus, Ohio.

As a silver sponsor of REACH, Encompass Health will sponsor the keynote speaker, Trisha Meili, an inspiring survivor of traumatic brain injury who credits inpatient rehabilitation with helping her reclaim her life.

ARN REACH 2019 officially kicks off Nov. 6, followed by three days of educational sessions, papers, posters and case studies presented by certified rehabilitation registered nurses (CRRNs) and other nurse leaders. In addition to providing the keynote sponsorship, 25 Encompass Health employees will present posters on varying clinical topics, and three employees will present papers on best practices implemented at Encompass Health hospitals.

Coleen Rossi, MBA, RN, CCM, CRRN, is the chief nursing officer at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River in New Jersey. Her paper, “Fostering a Healthy Work Environment for Nurses”, will discuss staff empowerment, barriers to providing quality care and tactics for fostering a healthy work environment in the healthcare setting.

From Yuma Rehabilitation Hospital in Arizona, Carissa Augustyn, MSN, RN, CRRN, director of quality and risk management, will present a paper on UrINe-VITED, a bladder management program piloted at Yuma Rehabilitation Hospital in 2018 to better educate front-line nurses on bladder protocols found in the Evidence Based Practice Guidelines.

Natasha Poorman, BSN, CRRN, is an infection preventionist at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Nittany Valley in Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania. Poorman’s paper, “Palliative Care in Rehabilitation,” discusses how adding a palliative care screening tool to her hospital’s heart failure program led to an increase in awareness in staff and a positive impact on patients with a diagnosis of heart failure.
