HealthSouth Statement on Passing of Robert P. May

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., April 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — HealthSouth (NYSE: HLS) today issued the following statement concerning the death of Robert P. May on April 2, 2011.  Mr. May, 61, had served as non-executive Chairman of the Board from June 2004 until October 2005, Interim Chief Executive Officer from March 2003 until May 2004, and had been a member of HealthSouth’s Board of Directors from October 2002 through October 2005.  

“Bob joined HealthSouth’s Board of Directors during a challenging time for the Company and served as an agent of change throughout his tenure,” said Jon F. Hanson, Chairman of HealthSouth. “His decision to answer our Board’s call by stepping in as Interim CEO contributed greatly to our successful restructuring and did much to help reshape HealthSouth.  In his personal and professional relationships, he prized courage, independence and excellence, qualities he himself possessed in abundance.  We extend our deepest condolences to Bob’s family.”
