“We are very pleased with the decision by the Virginia Department of Health to grant us this certificate of public need,” said Jay Grinney, HealthSouth’s president and chief executive officer. “As the nation’s preeminent provider of inpatient rehabilitative care, we are delighted to be able to offer rehabilitative services to the citizens of Northern Virginia. This state-of-the-art rehabilitation hospital will be an excellent addition to our existing network of hospitals and clinics in the Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, Richmond and Petersburg markets.”
Groundbreaking for the new hospital is expected in November 2008. Once fully operational, the hospital will employ approximately 200 people and offer the latest rehabilitation technologies and equipment, as well as all private rooms.
HealthSouth’s inpatient rehabilitation hospitals provide a higher level of rehabilitative care to patients who are recovering from stroke and other neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injury, amputations, orthopedic, cardiac and pulmonary conditions.
HealthSouth currently operates four inpatient rehabilitation hospitals throughout Virginia, including HealthSouth Fredericksburg, HealthSouth Petersburg, HealthSouth Virginia in Richmond and UVA-HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, a joint venture hospital in Charlottesville.
