From part of United States most heavily impacted by COVID-19, Coleen Rossi, Chief Nursing Officer at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River, shares her sources of inspiration and strength and guidance for those entering the nursing field in today’s environment.
Rossi, a nurse on the frontlines of COVID-19, is featured in Encompass Health’s Powered by Care series profiling how Company leaders and clinicians are delivering on our promise of connected care and superior outcomes.
One piece of advice from Rossi: “Hope is not a plan. Wishing for things to be better will not make it so. The practices we used to prepare for COVID-19 are evergreen. Preparation should take place over several meetings with representatives from every department, facilitating some very candid discussions. Our hospital was in a much better position to care for patients and each other because we had performed the groundwork together.”
Rossi, RN, MBA, CCM, CRRN, has more than 30 years of healthcare and rehabilitation experience. She has been with Encompass Health since 1988 and has experience in inpatient and outpatient satellite operations and case management. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from College Misericordia and a master’s degree in business administration from Western New England College. Rossi is a certified case manager.
